The MusiCore After School program in Kensington takes place at 2139 E Cumberland St, Philadelphia, PA 19125.
NOW ACCEPTING STUDENTS FOR THE 2018-2019 SCHOOL YEAR AT MUSICORE KENSINGTON
Rock to the Future’s after-school music program is for Philadelphia youth grades 6-12 and operates Monday-Friday from 3-6pm during the academic school year, September-June. The program is free for youth so long as they are committed to attending and participating regularly.
Get the full music experience in a judgement-free creative environment! Students get to learn their choice of instrument (bass, guitar, drums, piano, or voice), form bands with their peers, write and record original music, learn to play cover songs, participate in a vocal ensemble, and perform live a minimum of twice during the program year. Homework help and tutoring is also offered along with weekly creative workshops and performances from local and national musical guests from a variety of genres.
In the after school program, students receive:
-weekly private music lesson on guitar, bass, drums, voice, or keyboard
-weekly band practice with a qualified band coach and peers to write original music and learn cover songs
-weekly music theory or music business class
-weekly artist spotlight class with guest performances from local and national musicians
-(optional) weekly vocal ensemble
-daily homework help from qualified tutors
-Yearly winter performance and year end performance at professional venue like World Cafe Live
-Yearly opportunity to record original music at professional studios like Drexel University MAD Dragon records and Miner Street Recordings
-High school seniors receive college application and scholarship writing support
To qualify, you:
-Must be in grade 6-12 (entering 6th grade in the upcoming school year)
-Must reside in Philadelphia
-Must fit income requirements. We use 200% of the poverty level. We may request income verification. If you are above the level you may apply and we will request an additional essay indicating need.
-Must commit to attending Rock to the Future Monday – Friday (middle school students) or Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday OR Thursday (high school students) directly after school until 6pm
-Must have own transportation (walking, public transportation, parent provided) to get to and from Rock to the Future each day. Tokens can be provided if needed
-Must commit to improving grades and maintaining good grades
